Mitarbeit in einem Integrationskindergarten in Pultusk, in Sprachcafes und Besuche von Schulen, Hilfe bei einem internationalen Workcamp im Sommer.
Nursery School with Integration Classes No 4 is one of 3 municipal nursery schools in Pultusk. It consists of 2 units in No 3 Krajewskiego Street and No 7 Konopnicka Street in Pultusk. Since 2008 the institution has run integration class for children with developmental disorders. The unit in Krajewskiego Street has 5 classes, the one in Konopnicka Street - 3. Each class is run by 2 teachers and 1 person of service staff. The integration class is additionally supported by a teaching assistant.
In everyday work the teachers apply openness and active educational methods meeting the needs of the children and developing their creativity. The children learn through individual play as well as play in a team, which has organisational, corrective and compensatory character and strengthen their integration. During their stay in the nursery school the pupils complete the core Curriculum and have access to wide range of extra classes such as English, dancing, pottery, gymnastics, corrective therapy, Catholic religion and speech therapy. They participate in local events, celebrations and competitions, in which they present their skills and use them in practice.
The nursery school creates conditions for full integration between disabled and non-disabled children during their everyday activities. In addition, the disabled children have access to sensory integration therapy and speech therapy. In the integration class the Montessori’s method is also used.
Coordinating organization: Centrum Międzynarodowej Wymiany Młodzieży i Wolontariatu FIYE Poland (local office)
The volunteers will be helping kindergarten teachers with providing care and educational activities to 5- and 6-years old children. Each volunteer will work one semester in an integration group (with 2-3 children with autism, hearing impairment, physical disability etc.), the other semester in a non-integration group. Occasionally the volunteers will visit groups of younger children.
Once a week the volunteers will be organizing intercultural meetings for the local community such as language cafes or visit local schools and institutions. In the summer the volunteer will have a chance to participate or lead a workcamp in Poland.
Pultusk is a small and quiet Polish town of about 20 thousands inhabitants. In spite of being a small town, Pultusk has some touristic attractions. You can enjoy boating and kayaking on Narew River, have walks in its green parks or stroll in the old part of the town with the castle (currently a hotel) and old tenement houses. And of course, Pultusk is proud of its town square that is said to be the longest paved town square in Europe.
During the week you will enjoy relaxed atmosphere of a small Polish town and see ordinary citizens’ lifestyle. The town has all the modern infrastructure needed— many supermarkets, small shops, sport centre and a swimming pool, several schools and even the Academy of Humanities.
Night life of Pultusk is not that bright and full of events but you will always find a nice place to drink a beer with other volunteers. During the summer events such as concerts or happenings are organized. It is not far away from Warsaw so you can explore the capital of Poland during weekends.
